Silk Shading

At its most basic, this technique is known as the ‘long and short’ stitch. At its best, it is Silk Shading, or Painting with Silks. It is a demanding method, and is famously practised by the Royal School of Needlework to the highest standard. Silk is often combined with gold for truly stunning effects.
