Stump Work

Also known as Raised Embroidery, this was very popular in England in the 17th century and represented the embodiment of a noble daughter’s stitching repertoire. There are several beautiful examples of stump work at the Victoria & Albert museum in London, and the design possibilities are virtually limitless with this technique.
