Welcome

(Formerly Stitched-Art.Com)

My work reflects my passion for stitching by hand – putting thread to needle and needle to fabric. I am inspired by the flowing shapes of the natural world as well as the amazing beauty of the human form. Taking great time and care, I create intricately stitched pieces using diverse materials including silk and gold, linen and leather, employing techniques that are often hundreds of years old.

Historically, embroidery has always played an important role in marking significant events, and I hope that by exploring the symbolism and sacredness in everyday life today, this enchanting art form will find new opportunities and a growing audience.

I welcome private commissions from individuals or groups and hope to be exhibiting through a small number of specialist galleries throughout Britain in the near future. I also teach a number of traditional embroidery techniques as well as offering talks on various aspects of the art.

NEWS UPDATE:

The Royal School of Needlework Certificate and Diploma Course is coming to Bristol! I can now confirm with great pleasure that from September 2010 I will be running this wonderful accredited course out of the delightfully re-furbished Downend Folk House in Northeast Bristol. Dates are available by contacting Gill Holdsworth via the RSN website (www.royal-needlework.org.uk). This course suits beginners as well as experienced stitchers, so if you'd like a taste of the Royal School of Needlework without the long trek to London, join us in Bristol!
